Travelling to Châtel

One of Châtel’s biggest advantages is how easy it is to reach. With just a 90-minute transfer from Geneva Airport, it’s one of the most accessible ski resorts in the French Alps. For those travelling by car, Châtel is also an easy drive from Calais, Belgium and the Netherlands, making it a popular choice for families and groups across northern Europe.

Driving to Châtel
Many of our guests enjoy the flexibility of driving to the mountains.
The journey from southern England combines the Channel crossing with excellent French motorways before winding through the beautiful Abondance Valley into Châtel.

Approximate driving times:
Calais to Châtel – 8½ hours
Brussels to Châtel – 8 hours
Amsterdam to Châtel – 10 hours
Paris to Châtel – 6 hours
Geneva to Châtel – 1½ hours

Having your own car also gives you complete freedom to explore nearby villages, supermarkets and attractions throughout your stay.

Electric Vehicles
Travelling by electric car is easier than ever.
Charging points are available throughout France, with additional charging facilities in and around Châtel, allowing EV owners to travel comfortably to the Alps.

Winter Driving Tips
If you’re driving to Châtel during the winter, it’s important to arrive prepared.
French mountain regulations require vehicles to carry appropriate winter equipment during the ski season.

We recommend:
* Winter tyres or all-season tyres approved for mountain use
* Snow chains (or snow socks where appropriate)
* Screen wash suitable for low temperatures
* Plenty of fuel before entering the mountains

Weather conditions can change quickly, so allowing extra time for the final mountain roads is always advisable.

Flying to Geneva Airport
Located just 90 minutes from Châtel, Geneva is by far the closest international airport and is served by regular flights from airports across the UK and Europe.
With dozens of daily flights throughout the winter, you’ll find excellent choice and competitive prices, particularly if you book early.
Once you arrive, a pre-booked transfer will have you in Châtel in around an hour and a half.

Airport Transfers
We are proud to partner with Chatel Transfers who offer luxury private or shared transfers to and from Geneva airport.
Our concierge team can arrange your airport transfers before you travel, ensuring a smooth journey from Geneva Airport directly to your chalet.

Current guide prices include:
Shared transfer: from €60 per person (winter only)
Private transfer (1–4 people): from €270
Private transfer (5 people): €275
Private transfer (6 people): €280
Private transfer (up to 8 people): €290

All prices are one-way and include ski luggage.

Hiring a Car
Hiring a car from Geneva Airport gives you complete flexibility throughout your holiday.
It’s a great option if you’d like to explore neighbouring villages such as Abondance, Morzine, Les Gets or Évian, or simply prefer the convenience of having your own transport during your stay.
Winter tyres are generally fitted as standard during the ski season, but always check your booking to ensure your vehicle is equipped for mountain driving.

Our Tip
If you’re hiring a car, compare prices on both the French and Swiss sides of Geneva Airport. It’s often significantly cheaper to collect your vehicle from the French sector, particularly during the winter months, and you can still drive directly to Châtel without any issues.

Travelling by Train
From Geneva, regular trains run to Aigle in Switzerland, where you can connect with the scenic mountain railway to Champéry before taking the local shuttle or taxi into Châtel.
Although the journey takes longer than driving, it’s a fantastic way to enjoy the Alpine scenery and avoid winter driving.

Our Tip
If you’re flying, book your flights and airport transfers as early as possible—especially during Christmas, New Year and February half-term. You’ll usually secure the best flight times, the lowest fares and the widest choice of transfers. If you’re hiring a car, don’t forget to compare prices from both the French and Swiss sides of Geneva Airport—you may be surprised how much you can save.
